FAQs
What is breathwork?
Breathwork refers to various techniques of intentional breathing designed to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It can range from simple exercises to structured practices like holotropic or diaphragmatic breathing.
How can breathwork benefit me?
Breathwork can reduce stress, improve focus, enhance energy, support emotional release, boost respiratory health, and promote relaxation. It’s also great for increasing self-awareness and fostering a sense of inner peace.
“But I already know how to breathe!”
True! But most people only breathe into their upper chest, which is actually part of the typical stress response. This shallow breathing keeps your body in fight-or-flight mode. Learning to breathe deeply and properly helps calm your nervous system, clear your mind, and even boost your energy. So yes, you know how to breathe, but I can help you breathe in a way that works for you, not against you!
Do I need any special equipment for breathwork?
No special equipment is required! Just bring yourself and a willingness to focus on your breathing. I will provide a comfortable environment to guide you on the journey. Comfortable clothes and being well hydrated are also musts!
Do I need to have experience with breathwork to join an Atlas Prevails session?
Not at all! My sessions are open to all levels, and i’ll guide you every step of the way. Whether you’re new to breathwork or looking to deepen your practice, you’re welcome.
Can I do breathwork?
Most people can practice breathwork, but those with certain medical conditions, like respiratory issues or cardiovascular concerns, should consult a healthcare professional before starting. It is not recommended to practice breathwork if you are pregnant.
Is breathwork like meditation?
Breathwork and meditation often overlap, but they’re not the same. Breathwork actively focuses on controlling your breathing, while meditation is about observing thoughts and achieving a state of mindfulness. We will practice a combination of both to take you through the transformative process.
How long does a breathwork session take?
Our sessions can vary from 60-90 minutes for deep, transformative practices.
What can I expect to feel during a breathwork session?
People often experience tingling or tightness in the hands, warmth, or lightheadedness as oxygen levels shift. Emotionally, you might feel relaxed, energised, or encounter a release of emotions like joy or sadness. Regardless of the physical or emotional sensations, breathwork is completely safe and you are always in control.
Can breathwork help with anxiety or trauma?
Yes, many find breathwork helpful for managing anxiety and processing trauma. It calms the nervous system and creates space for emotional healing. However, working with a trained facilitator to begin with is recommended.
Do I need a facilitator to practice breathwork?
While simple techniques can be practiced alone, a facilitator such as myself will guide you through more advanced methods, ensuring safety and helping you achieve deeper results.
How often should I practice breathwork?
While this depends on your goals and lifestyle, we will tailor to your needs and work out what suits you best personally. Consistency, even in small amounts, can bring great benefits.
